Solo Playing

Among the orchestras with whom Ian Brown has appeared as soloist ar the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the BBC Philharmonic and the Bournmouth Symphony Orchestra. With the London Sinfonietta, he has played concertos by Falla, Hans Werner Henze and the Elliott Carter Double Concerto. Other highlights have been Mendelssohn's First Piano Concerto in the Vienna Musikveirein, and Messaien's "Oiseaux Exotiques" at the Proms.

He has had critical acclaim with his recording of Constant Lambert's Piano Concerto and Sonata. The Times review of his performance of Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, conducted by Sir Adrian Boult, said:

"...the music was not only very brilliantly played, but was made to mean more as music than it often does."
